Internationale Spieltage - Spiel 13

We went to the international boardgame convention in Essen.

A lot of boardgame authors and publishers had booths set up for game sales and trial plays. A lot of the games were greatly discounted. Hansa Teutonica for just 10 Euro!!!! (I-Sheng bought his for 70 CAD >.< in 2010) Cartagena for less than 5 Euro. Kingdom Builder for 13 Euro. There was the Carcassonne (1 on 1) and Settlers Competitions.

We played "Jaa Sulaa" (Melt Away). It's a small, fast, neat and cute game. Too bad it was 30 Euro and we already had something similar. Also played Senet. It's an ancient Egyptian boardgame. Simple and quick 1-1 game.

The Sheep Race is a cute and fun game. Would've bought it if it wasn't 30 Euro. The game's got an interesting betting mechanism, not to mention the dice rolling and the little cute sheeps.

We also played Yunnan. It's a game based on the tea trading practices in Pu-Er. A very intense strategy game. Would recommend it to people who enjoy Agricola, Peurto Rico that kind of strategy games.

Here are some shots of the games we saw:

Collectible version of Takenoko (for 136 Euro!!!). This is another cute short game with some strategy. If you're interested, this game can be played on boardgamearena.com.

We also saw a R2-D2 model (moving too). Too bad there were a herd of kids hovering over it that I couldn't get a clear shot.

At the end we only bought 2 games. The basic Carcassonne (14 Euro) and its Dragon and Princess expansion (10 Euro).
